The Search For DMOZ – DMOZ Blog
Yesterday the internet was all a flutter with reports and wide ranging theories as to why searches for “DMOZ” in Google were not returning the usual results.
The announcement today from AOL staff on the DMOZ Blog helps to explain the problems with Google searches for the directory. Search results should be back to normal now. There have been significant improvements to the directory and more improvements being planned for the future. A lot of the credit for these changes is because of the rejuvenated interest from Staff to support the project and in part to the editors who have contributed ideas, opinions, and thoughts on various topics. Thanks should go out to everyone who has pitched in on the project over the last couple of months especially.
Looking forward to the next installment of the DMOZ Blog.

I just added a new section to this blog for taking Polls. Nothing really formal (WordPress doesn’t allow for much creativity with regards to polls), but now you can cast your vote/opinion on current topics of interest.
My first poll topic attempt is get opinions on the new “Official DMOZ Blog“, please feel free to cast your votes.

A couple of weeks ago I was joking with a “World” editor, blaming them for all the spam I get in my email in box each day. I off handedly joked that I bet they were responsible for all the damn Viagra spam emails I was getting. Wouldn’t you know it that my work PC was hit with a trojan/virus that installed a ‘viagra.exe’ file into my registry. Researching the exact trojan resulted in finding that it was like coded/written in the exact country that this World editor is from. Found the culprit afterall I guess.
No, in all seriousness I don’t suspect any nefarious actions from an editor, least of all this one but it was ironic to say the least. It amazes me how much time these virus writers have on their hands. In any regards my work PC was down most of last week being wiped and not is back and working at a snails pace. It is scheduled to be completely overhauled as soon as our tech guy can get in here to look at it.
*On an off topic note, the weather here by most standards is crappy. Its been cool and rainy the last two days. Staying mostly over-cast and drizzling with frequent down pours lasting for up to a half hour of straight driving rain. However given the fact that my front yard is begining to look like the grand canyon, this rain is a welcomed change. They were predicting the drought we are currently under to continue through Christmas, and the effects wouldn’t be fully felt until next summer when they expected a lot of trees to succumb to the pressure, disease and insects as from the stresses that the lack of rainfall would create.
It rained all day yesterday and has rained off and on all morning so far today. Hopefully this will help!
