I have received a few emails and feedbacks wondering how I faired the recent Indiana Flooding. Thanks to those who cared enough to check in. We are doing fine at the moment. Last Tuesday was tough here, as flash flooding hit in full force during the home commute rush hour. I was trapped for several hours on the East side of town, trying to navigate cross town through flood waters which used to be major town intersections. Campus was completely underwater on this side of town. I managed to make a complete circle before finding passable roads. I travelled through several flooded roads and water in excess of 2 feet deep. They say 9 inches of rain fell in the area, it sure seemed like more.
This past weekend lead to even more flooding, over a wider area. Having to travel upstate, I was again stuck in the middle. Having to go first south, then west followed by heavy zig-zagging, before finally picking up a passable north bound highway to take me upstate without running into closed or blocked roads. Traveling home was better as most of the roads were open after a few days, but seeing the aftermath of receding waters was utterly devastating. Many businesses and homes were still surrounded if not flooded. Our closest neighbor town to the north was still heavily underwater and trying to clean up from mud-slides and downed trees as well.
Thankfully we are all well and safe, but we will be thinking about our unfortunately neighbors to the north with each passing day as more storms loom on the horizon.
